Savage Silk, an established North-East law firm, has appointed Joanna Nolan to its Private Client team after she qualified this month.
Joanna, who is from Stanley, completed both her undergraduate Bachelor of Laws (LLB) as well as her Master of Law (LLM) at Sunderland University.
Moving from a residential property firm, Joanna joined Savage Silk in September 2023 to progress her legal career via a Training Contract. Initially starting in the Property team, Joanna moved to Private Client, working closely with Partner Emma Huscroft and Senior Associate Victoria John on a range of client projects including wills & probate, powers of attorney and trusts. Thereafter, Joanna moved to Corporate and Litigation.
It became clear very quickly that Joanna was made to be a Private Client Solicitor. That coupled with her strength in the contentious probate area of litigation sees huge opportunities both for Joanna and the firm.
Savage Silk, which has its offices in Teesside and Newcastle, is keen to recruit legal talent locally and works closely with the region’s universities and colleges to highlight potential career opportunities with the firm.
It also receives a number of direct requests from undergraduates as well as from college students keen to take the apprenticeship route into a career in law.
Emma Huscroft, Private Client Partner said: “I am delighted for Joanna that she has qualified as a solicitor and joined my Private Client team at Savage Silk”.
“Joanna already holds all of the personal attributes of an amazing Private Client Solicitor; from client care to attention to detail. She is professionally beyond her years and her passion to progress is exciting for the team and the firm’
“We’re dedicated to investing and developing home grown talent and we welcome all avenues of recruitment and Joanna is proof-positive of the outstanding quality of the young people in our region that want to pursue a career in law”.
JOANNA’S PIECE
“I am delighted to have recently qualified as a solicitor in the Private Client team, and I am feeling extremely grateful to all of the team at Savage Silk for their invaluable training and continued support.
It still seems feels very surreal that the day finally arrived, and I am now a qualified solicitor. When I began university, I had always imagined qualifying as a solicitor, but I never knew which area of law it would be in. I had a very open-minded approach to all areas of law so that when I obtained a training contract, I did not feel restricted. I think this approach really helped me enjoy each aspect of my training contract. Each department has added value, and it has shaped me, as the solicitor I am today.
Private client was my second seat, and I knew fairly quickly that this was the area I wished to specialise in. Private client is an area where clients are often at their most vulnerable. Helping clients navigate what is often an incredibly difficult time is extremely rewarding.
Litigation was my last seat and during this seat I was able to experience matters relating to contentious probate. This ties in extremely well with the area I am now proud to be specialising in, and I am looking forward to exploring and growing in this area as I continue to progress in the department.
I am looking forward to this next step in my career and exploring new areas within the private client field.”
